Lokal Creators / Outi Martikainen
Outi Martikainen is a classically trained textile artist. Her works are influenced by craftworks and the practice of observation, which is so central to art. A distinctive feature of her work is the recording of small perceptions and memories in a concrete form, whether that’s individual works composed of minor details or larger installations made up of big panels. Martikainen often finds her materials in everyday life and gives them a new purpose. We visited her studio in Helsinki to take a closer look at her unique materials and methods behind her pieces, which we have exhibited as part of several exhibitions since our founding years.

“Depending on the (carpet) weaver, there will be some unevenness in the edges, or even in the patterns there might a mistake. But they are left there, because human beings are not perfect. And that can be accepted. When I make my own work, I like that too, not to mind the borders. I want it to be visible that I have made each one of them. There the string pulled a little tight – oops, doesn’t matter. And there it went a bit loose – alright, that doesn’t matter either. That does not effect the image. If someone is looking at the edges, they are looking at the wrong piece.” – Outi Martikainen

Lokal Creators / Armi Teva
Armi Teva on Helsingissä asuva kuvataiteilija ja muotoilija. Teva toimii monialaisesti mm. kuvanveiston, kuvituksen ja julkisen taiteen parissa. Töitä yhdistää leikkisä tyyli, rohkea värien käyttö ja intohimo piirtämiseen. Keramiikka on yksi Tevalle läheinen materiaali. Hän piti laajan näyttelyn keraamista reliefeistään Lokalin White Wallilla vuoden 2024 loppupuolella.
Lokal Creators / Réka Király
Réka Király on visuaalinen tarinankertoja. Hän syntyi Budapestissa, Unkarissa, ja asuu ja työskentelee tällä hetkellä Helsingissä. Kiralyn teokset vangitsevat ihmisten herkkää individualismia ja ainutlaatuisuutta kasvien muodossa. Nämä muotokuvat ovat dialogeja, jotka näyttävät esiin nousevia toistuvia elementtejä luonnossa. Vierailimme hänen kotiateljessaan Lokal White Wall Seedling -näyttelynsä yhteydessä.
Lokal Creators / Akiko Mori
Akiko Mori syntyi Japanissa ja opiskeli kuvanveistoa Taideyliopistossa Tokiossa. Vuonna 2022 hän avasi uuden studionsa Helsinkiin, jossa vierailimme hänen Lokal White Wall -näyttelynsä, Geometric Spaces, kunniaksi. Hän on kiinnostunut siitä, miten fysikaaliset ominaisuudet, kuten saven tiheys ja vesipitoisuus, vaikuttavat saven juoksevuuteen.
Lokal Creators / Benjamin Murphy
Benjamin Murphy, syntynyt Länsi-Yorkshiressä, on maailmanlaajuisesti aktiivinen kuvataiteilija. Hänen nykyinen työskentelynsä tutkii polariteetin, ajan, muistin ja kontrastin teemoja – usein puuhiilellä raa’alla kankaalla. Vierailimme hänen työhuoneellaan Helsingissä juuri ennen kuin hän pystytti Lokal White Wall Éanáir -näyttelynsä.
