Maija Luutonen

Maija Luutonen (b. 1978) works mainly by painting on paper. She creates spatial entities from her works, utilising sculptural elements and objects in addition to paintings. Her paintings stretch their limits by moving between two and three dimensions. Although her approach to painting is conceptual, it relies on seemingly unmanageable aspects of the mind and relies on hazy knowledge.

Luutonen’s solo exhibitions include Res, Sinne, Helsinki (2021) Patch, Kunsthaus Pasquart, Biel/Bienne, Switzerland (2019), Patch, Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma, Helsinki (2018), Draft and Float, Contemporary Art Centre, Riga (2017), Soon, SIC (2016).
