Iines Niemelä | Softie XVIII

Iines Niemelä (b. 1995) is a Helsinki-based ceramic artist and designer. In her ceramic tile works and reliefs, Niemelä addresses themes of continuity, contrasts and fragility, reflecting her observations of nature and her understanding of time. Through clay, she both structures, chops and shapes her memories, seeking security between the past and the present. Contrast, challenging materials and the search for harmony play a central role in her artistic work. Niemelä graduated from Aalto University’s School of Arts and Design in 2022. Her works have been exhibited at, among others, Helsinki Design Week, the Guadalajara Art Days in Mexico and other group exhibitions in the Helsinki metropolitan area.
