In his work he plays with figurative and abstract elements to create a visual language. Daydreams, desires and memories find their way into his work. Individual works reflect on these influences, but also function as pointers to a narrative or an idea.
The artworks are a window into those ideas but only reveal a small part of what happens. The paintings reflect on the conditions around them but perhaps go a bit further and are glimpses of dreams and memories of past moments that belong to the fabric in which they begin to exist. They aim to visualise a network to which they belong and the relationship to one another, while also reflecting on Behn Eschenburgs’ experiences. Sometimes a work functions as a counterweight to another piece; like an accent or a comma it creates an order in what is presented. Other artworks are openers that introduce the viewer to a place or an idea. Behn Eschenburg wants to present his work to the viewer in a way a poem functions to its reader and leaves them with perhaps ambiguity, a feeling or something newly discovered, instead of a precise explanation of the object in front of them.
