“I am building a house out of homesickness. Building block by building block. I take care of my longing like a house. I have two homes and my longing is constant. I am building a house, a memory of a home.” The work I am building a house (2025) is an exploration of homesickness through the material wood. In Anni Eckerman's work, the wood becomes the carrier of the work without being visible – through wood ash in glazes and plywood in glassblowing molds. Eckerman's interpretation of the natural environment and cultural history imitates the art of building and the history of design.
