EGS (b. 1974) is Finland’s most internationally known graffiti artist. For more than 30 years, his works have been seen in urban spaces around the world. EGS, who started his career in the late 1980s, is considered one of the most networked graffiti artists in the world. He attaches his three initials to all works, transforming them into new forms and systems, up to the point of unrecognisability.

“I like to do as much as possible analogically by hand. I started by drawing these letters and thought that when they’re ready, I’d use them to build some kind of compositions. I prefer leaving room for improvisation. Even though text there’s a plan, it’s fun to actually build the composition in the printing situation.
This is a three-letter manifesto. Even though they’re not readable letters, I think of this as some kind of a propaganda poster. But the message is open to interpretation. In a way, I make art a bit like a typewriter with only three keys. I try to say all I need with these three letters.”
