Roma Auskalnyte (b. 1988) is an interdisciplinary artist based in Helsinki. In her art she explores the body and its “fleshness” as subject matter in both art and printmaking. Her main area of interest is how to actualise the importance of gesture, labour time and repetition which are always hidden behind the final print. Those processes have influenced her and they have led to new transformations of her ideas and artworks.

"Since I’m not really an image-making artist, I wanted to use text itself. Usually when I’m exposed to a new technique, I try to figure out what it has to offer me. In this case I chose a particular text, which is a description of censorship, a so called redaction, which means that some information in the text is hidden. Initially the idea was to use the same text block and print on top of an already printed text, as if self-cancelling or self-redacting, but we’re playing around. The idea is shifting a bit, but it still retains its core concept."
