Eemeli Sahimaa (b. 1999) is an independent artist, designer, and carpenter. Central to his practice is reflecting on and embodying the essence of craft while seeking their meaning and purpose, both for the individual and within a broader cultural framework. Many of his works are autoethnographic self-portraits: wooden compositions of empty space, volumes, and basic shapes. Often, his works give direct hints about how they are formed and assembled, leaving their construction highly visible. This has become a stylistic device that reflects on how, despite such openness, there are always layers that remain unseen and open to interpretation. Eemeli is currently moving toward a research-based critical design practice as a master's student in the Contextual Design programme at Design Academy Eindhoven in the Netherlands.
